Simon is from Gembog, Chimbu. He moved to moresby in 1982 and was taught to paint by Mathias Kauage. By 1989 he had established himself as an artist and in 2000 he returned to the highlands and set himself up in Goroka.
While clearly influenced heavily by Kauage, Simon has a distinctive style often painting current affairs and political events as seen through his own imagination such as the election battles (highlands style) of George Bush vs Osama Bin Laden and John Howard vs Kevin Rudd as well as the ‘bumpim’ of September 11. He themes also extend to political and cultural issues in PNG such as land tenure, gender equality and the use of marijuana.
Simon can be found selling his work out the front of the Bird of Paradise in Goroka.
